FUNDING CALL from the Technology Strategy Board: Improve Energy Efficiency in Buildings

Some 18% of the UK’s CO2 emissions come from public and commercial buildings.  The introduction in 2008 of mandatory Display Energy Certificates (DECs) for public buildings has highlighted the need for the Government to improve energy efficiency in all of its offices.  This competition is designed to address the Government’s procurement needs and to prepare UK businesses to benefit from opportunities to retrofit buildings to improve energy efficiency.  Energy Efficient Whitehall is aligned with national policies to reduce carbon, and government targets to improve energy efficiency in its own buildings.

The Technology Strategy Board is launching a £2.75m SBRI initiative seeking solutions to improve the energy efficiency of buildings in Whitehall. The competition aims to demonstrate innovative retrofit solutions that reduce demand for energy and cut carbon dioxide emissions at existing government office buildings. Four government office buildings are being used for demonstrator projects. More details are available on the Technology Strategy Board website;

The competition opened on 22 February at noon with a close date for applications of noon on 19 April 2010.  Registration and access to the competition documents is via the link above. All applications must be made using the Application Form, which is available through that link.
